FIFTEEN

“The Council is meeting Tuesday night. There will not be enough for a quorum before that, so you have a brief reprieve. Matisse has already filed his intentions officially for an ouster. Edan sponsored the motion for new business.”

Addian was shaking as he listened to Omen’s report. “An ouster? Great Odin, I thought we had more time.”

“We would have had more time, if you hadn’t forgotten, or ignored the calendar. You have a birthday, this week. You stand at the precipice of thirty. They are not going to wait forever. It looks like they may not even wait until then.” Omen leveled the hard truth.

“What do we do?”

“I don’t know. As you are not yet thirty, I believe it will take a unanimous vote. But, I would not be surprised to learn that Matisse is campaigning actively between now and Tuesday to ensure that verdict. You might want to consider doing the same.”

“Is he aware that I survived?”

“That one I don’t know. If he does, it is high time for you to make a showing for the clan. If he does not, you will be tipping your hand, for the Council at the very least. And, as we don’t know how many may be siding with Matisse, it would only take one to tip it to Matisse as well.” Omen finished, his frustration translating through the phone.

“Hard call.”

“Then again, it might be a better play to arrive unexpected to the party.”

“Do you think?”

“Yeah. I think so. If Matisse is campaigning that you have disappeared, or whatever, and you arrive, it undermines his credibility.” He strategized.

Addian roughed the scruff at his chin. “Then that is what we will do. If it’s okay with Fynn, I’ll stay put here, out of sight. Contact me this way if you need me. Take care of you. I’ll join you Tuesday.”

Omen chuckled. “You know… Could be a two birds scenario.”

Addian scoffed. “Did you really think you needed to tell me that?”

“No, but I thought the reminder couldn’t hurt.”

“It’s complicated.”

“Un-complicate it.”
